Staff and students at The Global College enjoyed a week-long trip to France last week for the Winter Campus – an opportunity to learn in a new environment and hit the ski slopes for some fun.
One of the core aims at TGC is to enable students to discover their own independence, develop their own passions, and learn in different environments outside of the classroom.
As an IB school offering a pre-university experience, our liquid learning methodology, developed by our strategic partner, IE University, is a fluid, adaptive approach to learning. Using advanced technologies and innovative methodologies, it allows for synchronous and asynchronous learning, personalization, and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning process, while being guided by excellent and well-trained teachers and mentors.
Ski in the morning, study in the afternoon
While based at the Val Thorens resort in the French Alps, students took advantage of the opportunity to ski in the spectacular surroundings in the mornings. Not only was this a way to improve on the slopes, being outdoors created many new learning opportunities and the chance to get to know their teachers and classmates outside of the normal school environment.
Being in France also allowed students to work on their language skills. In an ever more globalized world, speaking different languages is vital, and something we put great importance on at TGC. Indeed, among our school community today, over 90% is multilingual. The highest number of languages spoken by a student at The Global College is six, and nine by a member of the staff!
Change of perspective
The afternoon sessions were for study time, and students were able to do so in an asynchronous way, learning in the way that suited them best. The change of scene helped students develop new perspectives to learning, and will hopefully lead them to be rejuvenated for a new start after a well-earning Christmas break.
