As part of their Environmental Systems and Societies and Biology IB courses, our students left Madrid for a three-day ecological field trip at the Gredos Field Centre.
Students went on a 5-kilometre hike to the mountain where they were lucky enough to see two Gredos Ibex and enjoy lunch at a mountain lake. They carried out an ecological survey of the lichen community, a river transect, looking for a correlation between the macro-invertebrate diversity and several abiotic factors they were able to measure, and investigated the plant community of the forest floor.
They enjoyed the weather, quality time with their classmates and collected lots of data that some students will be using for their internal assessments as well.
